The recommendations to lower fat intake, which began in the 1950’s were largely based on flawed science. We now know that excess sugar intake, not fat, is largely responsible for the enormous increase in obesity, diabetes and heart disease. The American Heart Association now recommends limiting added sugar intake to 100 calories a day for women and 150 calories a day for men.
